This image is an example of what kind of teacher Ms. Caroline is. Ms. Caroline is the teacher that intimidates students when asking a question. During this chapter, Ms. Caroline hit Scout with a ruler on her hand. This image has a ruler, to relate to that incident. As you can see in this picture that student is very terrified of the teacher’s craziness and intimidation. The question is, how come, Ms. Caroline got to hit a student with a ruler, and students aren’t allowed to do that. There are certain rules that some teachers enforce on their students. Most of these rules are warnings of not using a ruling as a weapon, but this teacher used a ruler as a weapon. This photo also shows the anger and the dislike of Ms. Caroline, towards Scout Finch.

I think the picture was very funny, but very true at the same time. Miss Caroline did hit her students; however I’m pretty sure it wasn’t looked down upon like it is nowadays. Then again, she hit Scout for very stupid reasons. (I mean, knowing how to read? Come on.) In the book, I don’t think Scout was so much afraid as she was confused, though. When Miss Caroline told her she wasn’t allowed to read and that whoever taught her that needs to stop, Scout wasn’t very afraid of being beaten. She was just wondering who had taught her to do that. It’s the same thing with Scout knowing how to write. Scout didn’t like Miss Caroline, but she wasn’t exactly afraid of her (in my opinion). At first, she acted as though she trusted Miss Caroline’s view and wanted to fix herself. Thankfully, Atticus let Scout continue reading.
