Teachers are suppose to encourage…(TKAM Chap 2 pgs. 20-29)

Teachers are supposed to teach us and encourage us to learn. They want us to succeed in life, and get a head start of studying. This helps students, boost up their enthusiasm toward learning and going to school. The First day of school is always the most important day. This is where you get to know your teachers and classmates. Everyone is eager to be able to take the first step in their school like Scout Finch was. However, if our teachers are the boring or the types that doesn’t even know how to teach, we loose interest. Scout Finch lost interest in school because her teacher Ms. Caroline deals with children poorly. In my opinion, Scout is a blessed girl to have a father that’s a lawyer teaches her how to read. In the near future, when she grows up she can have the highest level of comprehension we can ever imagine. Usually teachers encourage parents to teach and learn with their child. In Ms. Caroline’s case, she doesn’t want that because she got mad at Scout. Also she insulted Scout’s father by stating that he can’t teach at all. In my opinion, Ms. Caroline, shouldn’t have the license to be a teacher. From what I know from her right now, she is the type of person that looks down at everyone and she is all that. In addition, I believe that teachers shouldn’t have the right to hit other people’s children. This is morally incorrect, because the teacher didn’t raise that child.

I completely agree with you on the importance of the first days of school, especially in the 1st grade. Kids need to want to come to school and learn. Scout was definitely discouraged by her first day of school. I think Atticus and Jem helped to alleviate some of her bad feelings though.
